Rita Hornick Torner

After graduating, I attended (then) Anderson College and transferred to Clemson and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Air Force. The Air Force provided opportunities to visit many foreign countries and most of the states. I met many wonderful people (including my husband) and made many lasting friendships. After 9 different assignments, I retired in 1999 as a Lieutenant Colonel. Starting in 1999, I worked at SCRA and/or its affiliate in the Applied Technologies Center first in North Charleston and then in Summerville, SC. I retired in 2017 and now spend time with church, local charities, and an HOA.

Because I still have family living in the upstate and have season tickets for Clemson football games, we make it back several times a year. Some of my fondest memories are Spanish classes with Ms. Garvin. Ms. Anderson had the biggest impact by encouraging me to go to Anderson which opened the door to go to Clemson and be a part of the ROTC program.
